Build a BRIDGE and get over it!

I remember the first time I heard that statement…”Build a bridge and get over it”.  I was working as a  mental health therapist for an outpatient clinic her on the South side of Chicago.  Kevin, (our support staff ) was a “TRUE” Chicagoan!   A ex-gang member, with a no-nonsense time of persona.  I often asked him for help with things or help in the office.  I can’t remember what I was asking for that day ( of if I was complaining about something personal ….lol).  Either way, he looked at me, and said the words that I kept close to this day “Build a BRIDGE and Get OVER IT”!

I laughed..but I felt what he was saying…..

You see, In life we have those times when we feel stuck!  It may be a situation that broke our heart, a failed expectation or just something that has us wondering about the “what if’s”.

I never was involved in building a bridge, but I can only imagine how complex, thoughtful and time-consuming it can be.  Just think!  One brick after another after another.  Day after day, with the goal of getting to another side.

If you really think about it, we are building a bridge EVERY DAY!  maybe it’s that goal of losing weight?  Or, it could be that new job or skill?  One thing is for sure-we all have a bride we are building.

The reality is that if you building a bridge, it must be completed!  Have you ever seen an incomplete  bridge?  I would imagine it would look like a rainbow.. cut off!  LOL

Yes, that would probable have you saying…WTF is that?

But most bridges are completed with a start and end.  The most magical one that I have experienced are over a river or some time of stream.  Keeping us safe from the tides below.

Whatever your bridge may be…build it day by day.  Keep your eyes on the other SIDE!

It is the substance of things HOPED for!

Your are APPRECIATED!
